Common Hair Problems To Think About

Throughout the history of humans on Earth, our hair has always been one of the most looked at beauty criteria for all women in society.

It not only complete a woman’s appearance but can also reveal some certain part of her own personality as well as her inside beauty. It is not a surprise that a lot of women get obsessed with their hair. For that reason, these common hair problems, which can destroy one’s hair appearance, become real troubles for a lot of people. Split ends, greasy hair or gray hair are some of many problems that are not easy to deal with. It is also worse to know that our hair nowadays becomes more vulnerable to external factors and disorders, making it important for us to know how to protect ourselves properly. So I am going to show you what common hair problems that we often suffer from are, so that you can understand more about your crowning glory.

Common Hair Problems

1. Hair Loss

The first place on the list of common hair problems will belong to hair loss. It happens to plenty of people, especially during the autumn. Hair loss becomes a nightmare for not only women but also for the man who is afraid of male pattern balding when they get older.

The common cause of hair loss is stress, changing hormones, menopause or medication such as antidepressants, blood thinners, retinoids, NSAIDs, birth control pills and high blood pressure medications. People with an autoimmune condition known as alopecia areata can suffer from hair loss on the scalp and other parts of the body. Other disorders and health conditions that can result in hair loss include:

  • Major surgery
  • Severe infections
  • Overactive or underactive thyroid
  • Fungal infections of the scalp
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Autoimmune diseases, such as lupus

Moreover, hair styling products are also believed to contribute to hair loss such as over exposure to some chemicals or even excessive heat (blow dryers, flat irons, and curling irons on High when it is not needed). Certain hair care practices, for example regularly bleaching, wearing tight ponytails or perming the hair also damage your hair’s quality.

For the hair loss that relates to a medication, the solution is very simple, under medical supervision work out a way with your doctor to see if it is possible to stop using the drug causing hair loss and wait for the hair to grow back. Sometimes there is an alternative medication that does not have this side effect or even alternative health care (meditation, exercise, therapy, ask your doctor what is best.) After most critical illnesses such as cancer, chemotherapy or radiation therapy that causes hair loss once completed your hair often tends to grow again.

If your hair loss is related to male-pattern and also female-pattern baldness (yes it is a real thing), it is usually more difficult because the hair will not grow back on its own. You may need to apply medications such as Minoxidil (Rogaine) that are suitable for both sexes and Finasteride that can be available for men to speed up the hair growth. Injectable cortisone can also help in some certain condition. Hair transplant is another permanent hair-replacement solution that you can try to deal with the pattern baldness. Now these were the only methods for a long time but now other methods are available that are not as invasive. A lot of people have had great success with Monat! A personal friend of mine who has been using it for herself and for her husband have had great success. She has chronicled their success on her YouTube channel. You can see that here, this video shows her husbands 2 month progress. And here is one showing her progress! (I am not a Monat consultant or am affiliated with them in any way. I am just sharing her personal success in the hopes that it helps someone else.)

For normal hair loss caused by stress or disorders a great way to change the situation is to improve the nutrition and remove the build-up residue, along with any stressful factors in your life that you can remove yourself.  It is also important for you to limit the application of heat products which can result in hair loss in many cases.

2. Gray Hair

Gray hair will be one of the more common hair problems that are mentioned in this article. It is normal for hair to turn gray when you get older. Dr. Anthony Oro at Stanford University stated that 50 % of the population has half of their hair getting gray in their 50s. However, this hair problem sometimes happens earlier in people’s 20s and becomes a big worry. The premature graying has been proven to be due to the vitamin D3 deficient in the body, according to a study of Father Muller Medical College and Hospital in Indian. There are also plenty of factors that can trigger graying early such as malnutrition, using electric dryers, a hormonal imbalance, hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, pernicious anemia and concentrated hair dyes, chemotherapy, radiation, and genetic disorders. Some studies also point out that graying early can happen as the result of the lack of some copper, vitamin B, iodine, and iron in the daily diet as well as mental stress. Among these common hair problems, the early greying can be determined by genes, which means if your parents have premature graying, you should start to worry about it.

The fastest solution for you to deal with this problem is using different hair dyes to cover the grey hair. However, it is just a temporary way and it can lead to other common hair problems. Therefore, you can try other tips recommended below:

  • Relax more and try to be positive.
  • Improve the copper, protein, iodine, and vitamin B12 intake.
  • Keep hydrated.
  • Improve circulation.
  • Stop smoking.

3. Lack Of Volume

It will be a mistake if lack of volume does not appear on the list of common hair problems. Happening for both men and women, lack of volume can be the factor that destroys one’s hair style and affects his or her over all look. There are plenty of reasons leading to the lack of volume or flat hair, including thyroid problems, hormone-related conditions, low iron levels, and nutrition. It is believed that the wrong shampoo or inappropriate conditioner can make your hair too heavy and result in lack of volume. Sometimes, product build-up can be the hidden causes for most of the common hair problems, including lack of volume.

Luckily, this one is easier to deal with in comparison to other common hair problems. All you need are products that can repair the hair gently, also try doing a once a week clarifying shampoo to remove any build up from products, and to add more volume manually with large barrel rollers. Also there is a fantastic new set of rollers that you can use while you sleep! The Sleep Stylers are fantastic! Style your hair while you sleep how much more easy is it! Again a personal friend of mine has used these and have several videos on her YouTube Channel on how she uses  them and some tips and tricks for you! Check her out here!

4. Dry, Brittle Hair

Another familiar name on the list of common hair problems that also annoys a lot of people is the dry hair condition. People often think that this dry brittle condition is just a hair type that cannot be changed. However, it is actually one of the common hair problems that both male and female have to deal with every day.

The main causes of dry hair is as usual the lack of moisture and certain important oils that are required to keep your hair shining and healthy. The excessive exposure to the wind, sun, and dry air can also make the condition worse. Moreover, a study published in 2011 has shown that using heating appliances or hair color abuse can destroy your hair and make it drier and more brittle.

If proper treatments are not carried out, the dry conditions can lead to other serious common hair problems such as frizzy hair, split ends, thinning hair, hair loss, and hair breakage at an early age. Therefore, it is important for you to moisturize and hydrate the hair strands. High- quality conditioner is strongly required for those common hair problems. Some types of essential oils can be perfect choices for you by making your dry hair shiny and soft again. Remember not to brush or use a fine tooth comb on your hair if it is still wet to avoid breakage and split ends.

5. Split Ends

One of the common hair problems that will be revealed in this article is the split ends. This condition normally happens when there is damage happening with the hairs protective outermost layer, making it peel back. Women's hair is more likely to suffer from split ends due to the high frequency of chemical treatments, including coloring, straightening, and excessive styling.

Similar to the treatment of other common hair problems, applying suitable conditioner is required for the split ends. Moreover, keep your hair away from harmful chemical products to stop the condition from getting worse. Last but not least, don’t forget to trim your hair every 8 to 12 weeks to keep it in the healthy condition. Think of spit ends like a runner in your stockings once it starts it can keep traveling up until the whole thing is ruined so by getting a regular trim you can cut it off before it causes wide spread damage.

6. Flaky Scalp

A flaky scalp is often mistaken with dandruff, another issue among common hair problems. In fact, these two problems are often mistaken for as the same thing when in fact they are not. The cause of flaky scalp and the solution is definitely why it is set apart from the other because of the discomfort it can create for people. Not only does a flaky scalp inhibit the hair growth in women, it also acts as one of the reasons for hair loss.

The reasons for flaky scalp are various. They include the lack of skin’s moisture, cold weather, product build-up, strong detergents, using soap, hard diet and water deficient.

These natural remedies, for example, apple cider vinegar rinse once a week, can be very effective in flaky scalp treatment by restoring the pH level. The using of hair styling products that contain harsh chemicals should also be eliminated. Moreover, the essential minerals and vitamin intake should be increased in the daily diet. You can also massage your hair scalp with natural oils such as extra virgin olive oil and jojoba oil. You can make natural hair masks from yogurt, and honey mixed with other herbal ingredients can also work well to hydrate your scalp and provide moisture.

7. Dull Hair

Dull hair will be the next one on the list of common hair problems that are mentioned in this article. The dull hair will not only make you uncomfortable but also make you look older than your real age. Dull hair can be caused by chemical damage, heat styling damage, improper styling techniques, and sometimes environmental soils as well as stresses, which can roughen the hair’s cuticle.

Some people come to use a oily serum as a way to return the shine to their hair, but don’t know that it can attract more dust and dirt, making the hair worse. Once again, the best answer for all these common hair problems is using conditioner. This product can flatten the cuticle and make the hair shiner. Moreover, you can apply a clarifying shampoo once per week to get rid of the buildup and turn back the shiny healthy hair.

Dandruff is definitely the most embarrassing one among all the common hair problems, especially with those having dark- colored hair. Even a little dandruff that clings to hair roots really destroys one’s appearance and confidence. This hair problem is often resulted from an infection, a poor diet, Seborrheic dermatitis, Yeast, Certain skin conditions or maybe a sluggish metabolism.

For this hair problem, you can purchase and apply some good-quality anti-dandruff conditioner and shampoo. But it is better for you to ask your doctor in a consultation and also follow what is recommend from a beauty professional for the best products.

9. Greasy Hair

Last but not least, (the bane of my existence) greasy hair is also one of the common hair problems that people should be aware of. The hair scalp contains one type of oil known as sebum, which is responsible for keeping the skin lubricated and generated by the sebaceous glands. However, sometimes, these glands work so hard that produce excess oil, resulting in the greasy hair. This type of common hair problems is a real trouble for many people. To deal with this one, you should try washing your hair with a gentle shampoo like baby shampoo in order to control the sebum production. Sometimes they create so much sebum because of dryness caused by shampoos so make sure what you use is a moisturizing shampoo as well.

It is not easy to have great hair naturally and keep its shine for the whole day. Nowadays, there are plenty of common hair problems that can damage your appearance and lower your confidence. Especially in these modern times, when strong chemical hair products become more popular, our hair is more vulnerable than ever. Therefore, if you want to keep your hair shiny and healthy, it is important for you to know about these common hair problems and ways to deal with them before they become real issues.
